Bulldog Automata
£1250
Incredibly rare automata, dating from the early 1900s depicting a British bulldog.
Constructed from a metal frame, papier-mâché and covered in real fur, displayed in its original clothes and papier-mâché hand painted boots.
The motor has been removed but could be reinstalled as years ago the bulldog was converted to a ventriloquist dummy.
The movements now controlled by hand consist of the head moving side to side, nodding up and down, a head roll and opening and closing jaw, exposing plaster and hand painted tongue and teeth.
Originally part of an Edwardian shop window advertising display.
In overall very good condition.
Origin: English
Period: c1900s
