Huge, 19thc, Italian terracotta capasone/ giara, finished in its distinctive half dipped amber ochre glaze.
With twin handles, traditionally crafted in the regions of Buglia and Campania, these monumental vessels were used to ferment, store and transport local olive oil or wine.
Comprising of a terracotta body, with raised structural ribs, and glazed shoulders and rim to protect the contents from spilling or seeping.
Finding period jars of this size is incredibly rare, with this example being in good condition, with no damage or repairs.
Age appropriate signs of age and wear, suitable for interior or exterior display.
